TAX SEASON: Rep. Bishop Hosts Free File Event in Lansing
On Feb. 22, 8th District Congressman Mike Bishop hosted an informational meeting to connect eligible residents with Michigan Free File programs to file their state and federal tax returns online at no cost. After the briefing, attendees had the opportunity to use the Free File products.
"Free File programs are a prime example of how the government, private sector and community groups can work together to provide an incredibly important service, and at no cost to the government or taxpayers," said Rep. Bishop. "Everyone should have access to the necessary resources to file their taxes and get the full amount of their hard-earned refund in return."
WHAT: WHEN: WHERE: Free File is a public-private partnership between the IRS and tax preparation software companies, which provides millions of people with access to brand name software to prepare and securely file their taxes for free. Michigan is one of 20 states plus the District of Columbia that have formed Free File programs. Residents with an income of $62,000 or less are eligible to participate. RESOURCES: ### |
