WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Mike Bishop (MI-08) released the following statement after President Donald Trump and United States Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer announced a preliminary US-Mexico trade agreement:

As a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, I’ve been engaging with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and the Trump Administration on a regular basis to ensure we get this agreement done right – in a way that benefits all Americans. Today’s preliminary US-Mexico trade announcement seeking to modernize and rebalance our trade relationship with Mexico is welcome news. In Michigan, we understand that our manufacturing and agricultural sectors rely on strong trade agreements which support the American economy and our workforce. I’m hopeful Canada will come to the table so we can further these important relationships, and I look forward to hearing from my constituents and working with my colleagues in Congress to analyze the details of this proposal in preparation for a vote on implementing legislation.”
