WASHINGTON – Congressman Mike Bishop (MI-08) today released the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s Fiscal Year 2019 budget, which includes drastic funding cuts for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

“The failure to fully fund the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) in President Trump’s Fiscal Year 2019 budget released today is a serious disappointment. Since the initiative was launched in 2010, GLRI funds have been used to support thousands of restoration projects aimed to improve water quality, fight invasive species and restore the Great Lakes ecosystem. Protecting our Great Lakes is not a partisan issue, and I will work closely with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and fight to restore this critical funding. The economic health of our lakes depends on the important efforts carried out by the GLRI.”
