Congressman Mike Bishop, Michigan’s Republican member of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee, issued the following statement after House Republicans released their new tax reform legislation, H.R. 1, theTax Cuts and Jobs Act:

“At the end of the day, all Americans want to keep more of what they earned and build a better life. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act gets us one step closer by simplifying the tax code and lowering rates so families and individuals at all levels can get ahead. Job creators also need the freedom to invest, grow, and create more good-paying jobs, and we deliver on that by dramatically lowering rates and leveling the playing field so America can truly compete and win again.

“I’ve been meeting with hardworking taxpayers for months about the need for a fairer, simpler tax code, and this is absolutely something our communities want us to get done. Today is just the start, and the legislative process will work itself out – transparency included.”
