Congressman Mike Bishop joined the House in supporting a series of bills this week that would hold the IRS accountable for its repeated failures – including bad management, a lack of employee standards and a record of poor customer service. In response to the bills’ passage, Congressman Bishop issued the following statement:

“The Obama administration has chosen to ignore the IRS’ full-on abuse of power, so Congress is taking the steps to do something about it. I am committed to fighting for hardworking taxpayers and will continue to find more ways to hold the IRS accountable for its outright abuse and failures.”

The four IRS-related bills passed in the House this week include:

  • H.R. 3724 – prohibits IRS employees who were fired for misconduct from being rehired by the IRS.

    •  VIDEO: Rep. Bishop floor speech on H.R. 3724

  • HR 4890 – ends bonuses to IRS employees until the agency starts to fix its terrible customer service record.

  • H.R. 4885 – would get rid of the unaccountable IRS slush fund and reassert Congressional Article I powers over the fees the IRS collects.

  • H.R. 1206 –  would stop the IRS from hiring any new employees until it can certify that no employees are delinquent on their own taxes.
