Securing Michigan Priorities

WASHINGTON – Following House passage of the omnibus spending package, the Consolidated Appropriations Act for FY 2016 (H.R. 2029), Congressman Mike Bishop issued the following statement:

“With an emphasis on security and defense, oversight of the federal government, and protections for the Great Lakes, this legislation secures Michigan priorities. I am especially pleased to see full funding for Michigan State University’s FRIB, which will significantly advance American nuclear research and support $1 billion in economic growth in our district and state. The work is not done, but under Speaker Ryan’s leadership we can look forward to more long-term solutions to help our families and economy prosper.”


  • Full funding for the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams at Michigan State University

  • Inclusion of Chairman Candice Miller’s Visa Waiver Improvements language (H.R. 158)

  • Responsible funding for defense acquisition - including Growlers, Super Hornets and F-35s for the military

  • Inclusion of Cybersecurity Act of 2015 - for greater information-sharing of cyber threats

  • Funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative

  • New actions and protocols to fight the spread of Asian carp

  • Lifts the oil export ban

  • Cuts funding for the EPA and prevents new or expanded EPA regulatory programs

  • Prevents the IRS from targeting individuals based on political beliefs

  • Prohibits new funding for the Affordable Care Act and delays the “Cadillac Tax”
