America has the ability to take control of its energy future, so long as we take the necessary steps to develop more sources of energy in the U.S. and continue developing new renewable and energy-efficient technologies. This vital energy and economic development will not happen in Washington, D.C. however, and I am committed to removing Washington’s roadblocks from the path of entrepreneurs and America’s energy future.
The House has already passed H.R. 3, the Keystone XL Pipeline Act to end the Obama Administration’s obstruction and allow construction of this important energy project and job creator to commence. Keystone XL will go far in growing our American energy supply until other alternative sources such as solar and wind can be further developed and made economically self-sustaining.
America also needs a balanced, sensible energy policy that will protect our environment while not compromising our economy. As a lifelong resident of Michigan, I fully understand and appreciate the importance of preserving our natural landscapes and environment. Our waterways, forests, and plains are home to thousands of species of plant and wildlife, and attract people from all over the world every year to support Michigan’s tourism industry, a vital part of our state’s economy.
